Nelly Furtado Mi Plan

Nelly Furtado's fourth studio album and premiere full-length Spanish album 'Mi Plan,' hit stores on Sept. 15. The release follows her successful 2006 album 'Loose,' and encompasses a handful of international artists such as Alejandro Fernandez, Juan Luis Guerra, Julieta Venegas, la Mala Rodriguez, Buika and Alex, and classical heavyweight Josh Groban. Be sure to read Popeater.com's feature about her new album and check out the favorable reviews after the jump.

Allmusic (4/5): "This [album] is assured and cohesive, holding together better than her muddled sophomore effort 'Folklore' but having a similar range, bouncing elegantly from barbed, alt rock guitars to electro synths to grand, gorgeous ballads...it says quite a bit about Nelly Furtado's ambitions and skill when her Spanish detour winds up being arguably her strongest album yet."

Billboard (90): "With simple, straightforward songs that appeal to melodic sensibilities rather than rhythmic contraptions, the set is a mix of vulnerability and earnestness...The biggest departure is 'Silencio' (featuring [Josh] Groban), with Furtado adapting to his dramatic, classical sound while still retaining her earthy vocals and organic cadence."

New York Times (80): "Switching languages hasn't changed Ms. Furtado's pop knack. 'Mi Plan' is a collection of love songs...The music uses all the technology it wants; programmed beats carry most of the arrangements, while Ms. Furtado often overdubs herself as a backup girl group. And the songs stay bright, friendly and generalized yet heartfelt, awaiting the singalongs they invite in Ms. Furtado's latest language."

Hayley Westenra Winter Magic 2009

Classical superstar Hayley Westenra is set to perform at Exeter Cathedral this Christmas as part of her new Winter Magic UK tour.

Hayley and her band will perform a selection of her favourite festive songs - both old and new.

The New Zealand soprano's first internationally released album, Pure, reached No 1 on the UK classical charts in 2003 and has sold more than two million copies worldwide.

Pure is the fastest-selling international debut classical album to date, and made Westenra, then aged just 16, an international star.

Follow-up albums Odyssey and Treasure also hit the UK top ten. She is a UNICEF Ambassador and has performed for dignitaries around the world.

This year, Westenra performed at the Opening Ceremony of the World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, singing several songs including Pokarekare Ana, The Moon Represents My Heart in Mandarin, Tears For You, and Amazing Grace.

Eric Copeland Alien In A Garbage Dump mp3

Imagine your on top of the most beautiful hill with the most beautiful view imaginable. At the top you lose your balance and you fall uncontrollably down the hill. As you roll down you notice how beautiful and colorful the view is.

The view becomes more and more blurred and you become more confused as you gain speed tumbling down the hill. The colors of the view, the hill, and the sky blend into one swirling colorful, confusing masterpiece.

Just when you begin to think you might reach overload, you land cleanly on the ground, on your feet. You just listened to Alien in a Garbage Dump.

Microsoft Zune 30 GB Digital player

Quick and Legal Download Mp3’s For You Ipod –Ligamusic.com

Having owned a variety of MP3 players over the years (even before the iPod, during the time of 256 MB players), I can safely say that the Zune is the best so far. While the Zune does have minor issues, its strengths easily blow the iPod out of the water. The interface is extremely user friendly and easier to personalize.

The screen is GIGANTIC and crystal clear (though the album art is at a lower resolution, for some odd reason--not much of a problem though). Though the control buttons are overlaid with a wheel-like piece, they aren t similar to the iPod s controls. It s merely a d-pad with up and down (volume controls) and left and right (fast-forward/skip and rewind/back).

In addition, there is a back button, used to go backward through menus, and a play/pause button, used to turn the system on and off and...well...play and pause. The device itself is very easy to install and sync (took me only a few minutes).

Overall time to full charge is around 3 hours. Though the Zune itself is a bit larger than the iPod, it isn t as big as some of the other reviewers would make you think. It s actually quite small. Also, the casing is a thousand times better than the iPod s (made of a tough rubber-plastic-type material--no smudges). In addition, the colors are awesome, with a cool two-tone effect (black with blue edging is the best).

Though some of the other reviewers out there have many bad things to say of the Zune, these are merely nitpickings on the Zune s own shortcomings from iSheep, and not comparisons to the iPod (e.g., the Zune s wi-fi isn t what I want yet!--nevermind the fact that the iPod has NO wi-fi and the Zune s wi-fi can easily be expanded with a firmware upgrade).

When compared to the iPod, the Zune is clearly the better pick of the two. Remember, just because something is more popular and has a larger fanbase doesn t mean that it s better. If you re debating on whether or not to pick up a Zune, I highly recommend it

Much more than an mp3 player!

Ligamusic.com Cool Mp3 download site

First of all I will provide some background info about myself. I live in a small town (between 5,000 and 6,000 people). I also have a 19 month old toddler. I'm planning on buying a membership to the local gym to help get rid of my post pregnancy tummy and tone up my muscles. That's what started my obsession with the iPod touch.

I need music to listen to while I work out so I began researching mp3 players online. I did A LOT of research and I finally came to the conclusion that this is the best product for your money - especially if you want an item that will do it all. If you just want something to play your music, then this isn't for you.

But if you want something to play music, videos, view photos, play games, read email, go online, access your contacts, tell you about the weather, and many more things...then this is your music player!
Now, I'm not rich - far from it! And I don't have any credit cards or anything like that.

So I was deffinitely freaked out by the price. I bought mine for $225 from a licensed Apple retailer. I was tempted to buy from ebay but I've gotten some bad products from sellers who had decent reputations. So, needless to say, I was a little leery. I'd rather spend more and get a product that is guaranteed to work and won't be "lost during shipping".

I only purchased the 8gb model. I'm not planning on downloading any videos to it and I don't have a huge mp3 music library. But if you want to download videos or movies onto the iPod's memory or if you have a huge music collection, I would deffinitely suggest getting a model with more memory.

I sometimes wish I'd bought the 16gb model but I think the 8gb will be sufficient.
As for the iPod itself...all I can say is WOW. It is absolutely amazing. It can do everything that the iPhone can do except

Marit Larsen If a Song Could Get Me You

Mit "If a song could get me you" hat Marit Larson sicher keinen Meilenstein in der Musikwelt bewegt.

4 Hero Extensions mp3

I have long been complaining that 2009 has been a year that has left us music lovers bereft of quality music. Now don't get me wrong--2009 has produced some hummable tunes, but in my honest opinion there have lacked certifiable bangers. Until now.

Nu Jazz pioneers 4Hero have returned with Extensions, a phenomenal album that is slated to drop October 27th. My eardrums are tingling with joy, and my mind keeps telling me that this event is on par with the release of the stellar Leave It All Behind from Foreign Exchange last year. Preview the tracks below and try to pick a favorite--I dare you. Afterwards, peep the tracklisting after the bounce

Frankie Knuckles Motivation Too mp3

Knuckles has been pushing house music forward since the '80s, and the phrase "house music" is even said to have originated from the man himself as a tag to describe the music that he was playing at Chicago's Warehouse club.

He's since moved back to his hometown of New York, which was where he found the inspiration to record 2001's Motivation mix. Unfortunately, the catalyst for that particular mix was the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers on September 11th, but Frankie has decided to follow it up with this year's Motivation Too release.

Those looking for a more retro mix may be disappointed, as most of Knuckles' selections are taken from the last ten years of US house, including cuts from Grand High Priest, Michelle Weeks and Timmy Vegas. Tracklist

01. Dr. Gary Gray – Faith 02. Big Brooklyn Red – He Moves 03. Michelle Weeks – A Purpose 04. Deep Swing featuring Toney Jones - Across The Land (Spread Love) 05. Dr Strafe Like in the Deal mp3

Rob Sayles (Dr Strafe) is the Bristol based DJ/producer who was originally active on the Drum & Bass scene as a DJ/promoter for several years, running a renowned night called Stealth which featured many big name DJs like Bad Company, Ed Rush and Moving Fusion. Having then had his ears opened up to the funkier side of things by acts such as RJD2, Breakestra, Quanitc, Bonobo he began to incorporate all his new favourite sounds and influences into the deeply groovy stew he is now renowned for.

Refocused, Dr Strafe aims to produce modern funk music that tries to add something new or something from other styles of music like breaks, and house, etc as he feels funk can be incorporated into almost any genre of music with fantastic results if it's done right! Like In The Deal fuses all these influences: contemporary breaks and beats fused with retro movie soundtracks that evoke car chases & bank heist themes, blended with Motown sounds from the 1960's and 70's along with retro gaming effects, namely 8-bit Nintendo and C64 style music!

Dam Funk Toeachizown mp3

Toeachizown is the sprawling, two-and-a-half hour debut album from Stone's Throw's "Ambassador of Funk," Dam-Funk. It is made up of five installments: LAtrik, Fly, Life, Hood, and Sky, to be released throughout the fall of 2009. For this album,

Dam-Funk drew from his influences, from big names like Prince to the little known funk pioneers from his hometown in L.A. His self-proclaimed "electric-space-funk" is produced with analog synths and vintage drum machines, and divided thematically between the volumes of the set -- for example, LAtrik got its name because it's the most "electric" of the five. Clever, no?

Bad Boy Bill The Album mp3

"Nonstop fast life/different city every night/no sleep late night." With lyrics like that written on a cell phone at 6 a.m., it’s only appropriate Bad Boy Bill stops in Vegas again, this time at Rehab on July 12.

After two decades as a DJ — “America’s Favorite House DJ” to be exact — BBB is releasing a full-length CD of original material. Simply titled "The Album," the Beatport.com co-founder unleashes his tracks on the masses July 28, though the single “Falling Anthem” is already a club favorite. Will the world be ready for the notorious DJ’s tunes? Las Vegas will get the chance to preview a few of his productions at the Hard Rock pool.

"The Album" is not what one might expect from Bad Boy Bill. On a whole, the tracks are less club-friendly and resemble more rock-esque songs. Almost all selections are heavy on the vocals, light on multi-layered intricacies and sweeping melodic progressions many of his contemporaries are favoring. A punchy electro feel encompasses a good portion of the CD, but then the listener sometimes experiences abrupt genre changes from track to track.

The CD starts off strong on an electro-rock foot with “Do What U Like,” and you can’t go wrong with cowbell. The opening four songs bring to mind Junkie XL’s "Booming Back at You," though BBB’s arrangements are a bit simpler than the Dutch production veteran.

The unexpected variety on "The Album" continues, including a little tribute to Herbie Hancock. BBB’s cover of Hancock’s “Rock It” (complete with BBB’s signature scratching skills) is probably the closest thing to what we’d look forward to from Bill and is one of the highlights of the album. It’s unfortunate the track comes in under three minutes.

One song to put on continuous repeat, though not a floor banger, is “If I Tell You.” Alyssa Palmer’s vocals shine with sad honesty while deep moods balance with delicate guitar on the funky downtempo song.

In actuality, Bad Boy Bill has had quite a bit of assistance from friends on "The Album." Only one track lists him as the sole producer; industry heavyweights JJ Flores and Steve Smooth are all over the album, among other helping hands. Palmer sings on four of the album’s 11 tracks; Johanna Phraze, Alex Peace, Eric Jag and Kid Infinity also appear.

The diversity on "The Album" could have a dual effect on listeners. Some dance music fans might be alarmed or feel it’s a bit ADD for their taste if they’re looking for something similar to his "Bangin’ the Box" mixes. On the other hand, it could help BBB reach a diverse audience base.

Assemblage 23 Compass mp3

Robert Miles Dreamland

When I bought this CD I was only familiar with the tracks "Children" and "Fable", but since I quite liked them, I decided to buy this album.

Although not exactly a bad choice, I was a bit disappointed. The problem with the tracks is that they all use the same elements: same piano, same strings, same synths... even the drums and bass sound almost the same. I know these elements more or less define the "dream house" sound Robert Miles was known for at the time of this release, and while the tracks themselves aren't bad or anything, it's just that a whole CD of the stuff gets quite boring.

The upside of having the tracks sound so alike is that the album has a very consistent dreamy/chilled atmosphere. The cheesy poppy vocals on "One & One" kind of break the atmosphere though. "Red Zone" deserves to mentioned too, since this is the only track on the album that doesn't use the piano-sound used in the other tracks, and has a bit of a proggy trance mood. Yet still it blends in nicely with rest of the tracks, which sort of proves that Miles didn't need to fill the disk with 10 clones of "Children".

Joris Voorn From A Deep Place mp3 download

Marvellous follow up to Joris Voorn's highly acclaimed debut album, "Future history". Rich and vivid musical textures are on the menu throughout, as Joris ventures even deeper into exploring many styles, ranging from house, break beat, ambient through to deeply soulful techno. A big plus for not being afraid to try out many things and still deliver a proper album, which works just as well when listened to in one go at home or giving your body a work out on the dancefloor to these tunes.

Joris avoids falling into a trap of 'ten samey seven minute tracks' per CD, and invites us for a ride through his vision of electronic music. Versatile, melodic and ecclectic. Tracks are skillfullly divided by brief ambient compositions, while the tempo of the music goes from faster house to slower tech house back into some subtle broken beat.

Many styles presented, many moods and many possible windows to look out of. This album can be approached from more than one angle and can be enjoyed by a large crowd. It's fun, and is clearly a work of a man who has more ideas than one could fit on a single disc surface.

The album can do wonders on the dance floors as well, and I would like to point out MPX 309 as the most striking example. While it may be the album's simplest track, it just amasses tension and builds builds builds! People love it.

Pointing favorites may be hard, but the incredibly lush opener, Revelation, the funky and melody driven The Deep, then Lucid Dreams with its old school acid synth segment, and the driving MPX 309 are slightly above the rest in my opinion, but I am being picky here. There are no weak points on this album. Furthermore, this is one of the most interesting and purchase worth albums in electronic music I have heard in years. Seriously, it is incredible how loaded with memorable melodies, pads, samples and juicy beats "From a deep places" is.

An absolutely compulsory listen for anybody into electronic music, and just when you thought everyone jumped on the minimal wagon, something as interesting as this drops to prove you wrong.

And if you still have your doubts, Joris recently released a double CD mixed compilation, "Balance 014", so go take a peak at his DJ skills which, take my word, don't fall a single inch behind his breath taking production techniques.

Steve Mac Paddy's Revenge mp3

This is, without doubt, one of the worst house tracks Ive heard in a long time. I know that house music can incorporate many other styles (Hip-Hop, Jazz, Latin etc.) and often times thats good as it keeps things interesting.

This track however takes it too far by mixing house with traditional Irish music, sampling instruments such as an accordion and a fiddle. The result sounds incredibly cheesy.

I cant imagine any respectable DJ playing this out in a club (although you never know I guess). The video is corny too, featuring a Leprechaun (of all things) dancing a jig. One to avoid at all costs.

Felix Da Housecat He Was King 2009

Felix Da Housecat is always reinventing himself to produce cutting edge beats but somehow manages to keep his signature sound.

He calls this album pure "pop" and most songs do have some catchy choruses like "We All Wanna Be Prince" and "Spank U Very Much." But there are also some wonderful tracks like "Elvi$" and "Kickdrum" that sound something like a computer dropping acid- and these are the tracks I am most impressed with.

This album sets a high bar for electro in 2009.

2009 album from the acclaimed British vocalist and former member of Japan. David Sylvian is a man apart. In a thirty-year career that spans the New Romantic movement, ambient works and Progressive Rock, and mature and esoteric Pop, Sylvian has tested popular styles and bent them to his own vision.

On Manafon, Sylvian pursues "a completely modern kind of chamber music. Intimate, dynamic, emotive, democratic, economical." In sessions in London, Vienna, and Tokyo, Sylvian assembled the world's leading improvisers and innovators, artists who explore free improvisation, space-specific performance, and live electronics.

From Evan Parker and Keith Rowe, to Fennesz and members of Polwechsel, to Sachiko M and Otomo Yoshihide, the musicians provide both a backdrop and a counterweight to his own vocal performances.

Ace Frehley Anomaly mp3 downloads

Back in the 70’s Ace Frehley posters could be found on the walls of budding guitar players worldwide. Fast-forward to 2009 and much of today’s youth probably A) does not know much about Frehley or B) doesn’t care (it has been 20 years since his last full-length solo album!!!).

Well Ace, The Metal Show cares and is rooting for you to put out one of the best albums of your career. OK, so that might be a tough thing to do, but at least something that is not too cliche and cheesy in today’s world.

Frehley did say he was looking towards his first solo album outside of Kiss (1978’s Ace Frehley) for inspiration. If he can write a song that even comes close to Snow Blind I will be satisfied.

For those of you who don’t follow the lives of Kiss members as extensively as your host Randy, Frehley’s new album is titled Anomaly and is supposedly coming out this Spring. He designed a new promotional site and the album cover which you can check out below.

Both give off a little bit of a cheesy old-school rocker feel, but at the same time the album cover has grown on me and is a simple retro 90’s looking Web site really that terrible?

Here’s to Frehley releasing an album that is fun, energetic and rockin’ in 2009, even if he isn’t trashed out of his mind.

Jay-Z's 'Blueprint 3': The Outlines of Ennui

Somebody fetch Jay-Z some smelling salts, a Starbucks gift card, a midlife crisis -- anything to knock him out of the stupor he has settled into on "The Blueprint 3."

The rap icon's 11th album is the first full-scale disaster of his career, a collection devoid of the mega-jams we expect from hip-hop's undisputed alpha male. Instead, we suffer lyrics that suggest a new credo: Shrug that dirt off your shoulder.

The rap game? He's over it. Hip-Hop next generation? Yawn. The haters? Pffft. They say it's lonely at the top, but for Jay-Z, it's just incredibly boring. After 13 years of thrilling auto-hagiography, the man sounds fed up not only with hip-hop but with himself. How can he expect us not to agree?

Lukewarmth ensues immediately with "What We Talkin' About," an album opener that hints at early-onset dementia. "I don't run rap no more, I run the map," the veteran declares. Moments later, "I don't run rap no more, I run the map." Have we just witnessed Jay's first senior moment? Hard to say whether the slippage is due to laziness, carelessness or senility, but it's certainly a far cry from the dexterous salvos that usually launch a Jay-Z album.

The rest of "Blueprint 3" follows suit, pairing bromidic couplets with swatches of keyboard piffle -- save for "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)," a lead single that finds Jay bemoaning those pesky R&B whippersnappers and their zany pitch-correction software.

"This is anti-Auto-Tune, death of the ring tone," he groans, humbugging over a scratchy boom-boom-bap. "This ain't for iTunes, this ain't for singalongs." No kidding.

Such grumpy old mannerisms raise the question: Can hip-hop age gracefully? Without becoming boring or bitter? No living artist embodies the art form quite like Jay-Z, and with his 40th birthday fast approaching, the rap world is looking to him for life lessons from the other side of the hill. Instead, Jay chooses to define wisdom merely as the opposite of youth. Over the irritating clatter of "On to the Next One," he explains, "No, I'm not a Jonas brother, I'm a grown-up." (Glad he cleared that one up.)

This isn't his first stumble: 2006's "Kingdom Come" hinted at Jay-Z as an older, wiser (and more tepid) rap star, but the album still had a pocketful of tunes capable of rattling your speakers and raising your pulse. The only thing resembling that kind of excitement on "The Blueprint 3" is "Off That" -- a whizzing Timbaland track that could have been unearthed from the back of Nelly Furtado's freezer and reheated with a hook from Drake, hip-hop's incumbent cutie pie.

"Whatever you're about to discover, we off that," the heartthrob sings, pantomiming the ethos of his grouchy paymaster as best he can. Meanwhile, Jay summons the energy to lob a few spitballs at Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly, before resorting to contempt for the wannabes. "If you're driving it, I drove it," he taunts, halfheartedly. "You got it, cos' I sold it."

It feels like a shoulder shrug at 111 beats per minute -- and don't mistake it for dancing. He's off that, too.

M-Audio Digital DJ Mixlab System

Product Features

  • includes Torq LE software and X-Session Pro control surface
  • mix two songs with independent control of speed and pitch
  • automatic beat-detection and synchronization for effortless beat-matching
  • full-featured mixer with 3-band EQ, headphone cueing and crossfader
  • 3 audio effects for each song: filter, phaser and strobe

First off I was a huge fan of Trance music and I really wanted to get into mixing and making my own cd's.

However, I had no idea where to start and how much money it was going to cost. After months of research I came across this beauty. The M-audio Mixlab was the best thing I could have purchased with my experience mixing (little to none) and my budget (fairly low).

The software that it comes with (Torq LE) is a slimmed down version of the real thing but for where I was it was perfect. The mixer is also a slimmed down version of bigger, more complicated hardware. However, dont let the look of it throw you off, it has everything you need to get started and much more. This whole set is perfect for if you want to learn (or even just see if you want to get deeper into Djing)

Note: I had to buy a new audio interface (Numark DJ Io) and a pair of monitor speakers (M-audio audiophile Av 30) to fully appreciate what I could do. If you have a one channel soundcard on your PC then you wont be able to cue you mixes. It applies to every other dj equipment you may buy

Gemini CDM3600 Dual CD Mixing Console

Product Features

  • Audio CD & CD-R compatible
  • Anti-shock using RAM buffer memory
  • 2 Selectable Jog modes Pitch Bend/Search
  • Instant-start & cue with preview
  • Fader-Start capability

What can I say? This is a basic unit with two CD players and a mixer all integrated into one machine. No, you cannot "scratch" on it, the only effects it has are the basic equalizer settings (which are still very nice).

There are people who have been saying that the loop function is not seamless. Just to let you know: After testing the the loop function various times, I can honestly say that this is not completely true.

Read the manual, guys. It says that the very first loop will have a short pause, then the rest will be seamless. I've found the documentation to be correct. The only thing I would worry about is when you exit the loop, there actually is a small pause when continuing. Other than that, and the first loop, there are NO pauses (at least, no pauses that are immediately noticeable to the human ear).

So anyway, this is a very nice all-in-one unit that's great for portability and hosting parties with. It feels solidly built, and the controls feel solid and responsive as well. I plan to take extremely good care of this unit so it stays that way.

SVM-1000 4-Channel Audio and Video Mixer

DJs and VJs: unlock your true AV potential.

Watch videos about this product on DJsounds.comDesigned for use with our DVJ-1000 DVD/CD decks, the SVM-1000 gives you comprehensive control by synchronising both audio and video elements of your performance.

Even audio-only DJs can easily add visuals synced to the music from the SVM-1000's built-in visualiser capability.

Complete with LCD touch panel, an impressive range of effects and 96 kHz/ 24-bit studio sound quality, the MIDI assignable SVM-1000 functions in a similar fashion to our acclaimed DJM series; which for DJs mean that the doors to full-on AV freedom are now fully open!

DJs and VJs have worked together to deliver immersive AV experiences for decades, and of course it is natural that the two art forms are so closely interlinked.

Our revolutionary DVJ-X1 brought the two crafts closer than ever before in 2004, as the world’s first DVD
decks opened up VJing to DJs.

However, a major stumbling block for many was the lack of a simple and easy-to-use AV mixer; DJs and VJs
had to use separate mixers to blend sound and vision.

Now the super-versatile SVM-1000 has the power and technology to change all that.

Developed with input from leading DJ and VJ artists this mighty mixer works perfectly in both audio and AV set-ups.

For many artists this mixer will be the missing link they have been waiting for. DJs and VJs around the world now have the potential to explore new avenues of creativity! Репликант / Replicant (2001) DVDRip

MP3 of the Day: Mister Drake Gets Deep DJ Mix

Ready for the weekend? Well, you might think you are, but not until you download this DJ mix by local mix-master Sean Drake, also known as Mister Drake. Formerly a resident DJ at Pawn Shop Lounge, Drake has been away from the music game for a while. He made his return a few weeks ago when he celebrated his birthday at Back Door Bamby at the Vagabond, dropping plenty of house-y grooves and indie-dance staples.

Maybe that short stint reignited Drake's passion for DJing because he returns tomorrow night at the Vagabond with Heidi and Audiofly. The Get Physical beauty should be reason enough to stop by the Overtown locale, but for those of us with fond memories of partying between Pawn Shop's trailer and thrift store knick-knacks might appreciate the extra nostalgia.

Still, if your expecting a open format set from Drake these days you'll be sorely disappointed. He has successfully abandoned the middle-of-the-road "genre" for deep groove and house. Check it out!

Free MP3 Download: Metric "Gold Guns Girls" (Mike Shinoda Remix)

Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda put together a punchy, synth-laden remix of Metric's "Gold Guns Girls" that easily matches the energy we know from his work with Linkin Park. Shinado produced this atmospheric revamp as a soundtrack to his art show, Glorious Excess (Dies), now showing at Los Angeles' Japanese American National Museum until October 4.

The exhibit is Shinoda's collection of paintings and digital works that explore society’s obsession with celebrity culture, consumer addiction, and fascination with excess. (Below a video with more info about his exhibit.)

Shinoda writes on his blog, "I mentioned the band Metric a long time ago...and some of you know I like their music. Their album 'Fantasies' contains a song called 'Gold Guns Girls.' When I first heard it, I thought: this is like a theme song for Glorious Excess! Well, I contacted the band, and (to make a long story short) I remixed the song."

Radiohead Guitarist: MP3 Is Good Enough

When Radiohead keyboardist / guitarist Jonny Greenwood shrugs off the issue of audio fidelity, indie musicians should take note. Given that Radiohead is perhaps one of the biggest proponents of alternative music monetization, it's ironic that Greenwood is discrediting one of the industry's key price differentiators. Musicians with tracks on iTunes, Amazon and DIY stores like Bandcamp have often chosen to price MP3s at lower rates while higher quality recordings have fetched more per track. In a recent article with The New Yorker's Sasha Frere-Jones, Greenwood admits there is little reason for the MP3 generation to look for a higher quality experience.

Said Greenwood, "We had a few complaints that the MP3s of our last record weren't encoded at a high enough rate. Some even suggested we should have used FLACs, but if you even know what one of those is, and have strong opinions on them, you're already lost to the world of high fidelity and have probably spent far too much money on your speaker-stands."

radiohead_mp3s_aug09b.jpgGreenwood's biggest complaint about MP3s was not quality or sound compression, but rather abundance. He suggests that MP3s make it far too easy for fans to hoard music without "giving it their full attention". In a recent Pitchfork article Eric Harvey suggests the opposite. Says Harvey, "The mp3 may have atomized music into millions of little pieces, but each piece, it seems, found a publicist. The average music fan now has the built-in capacity to double as promoter and distributor in an ever-expanding arena that's making and eliminating rules every minute."

Whether you see them as hoarders or promoters, one thing is certain, the iPod generation is changing how music is consumed. But if they can't depend on tiered pricing for audio quality, how can companies monetize the new music fan? While a Stanford study suggests that the iPod generation prefers the flat sound of an MP3, it doesn't mean today's listeners aren't willing to pay for their music. According to an NPD Group report purchasers of digital music downloads increased by 29% last year with iTunes controlling a quarter of all music sold. Some of the ways fans still generate revenue for bands include streaming music subscriptions, track and album purchases, concerts tickets, merchandise and paid application downloads.

Update, Ed: there can be a big difference in audio quality of MP3s promoted on the Web. For example the quality varied greatly between Radiohead's In Rainbows album and Saul Williams' album (promoted by Trent Reznor). See Kim Gaskins' post on the new Latitude Research blog Life Connected for further analysis.

W-Series Walkman wearable MP3 player

Well in the running for Coolest Gadget Ever, Sony's new W-series NWZ-W202 Wearable Walkman is a stereo headset and MP3 player all in one.

NWZ-W202 Wearable Walkman

Platform(s): Audio

Publisher: Sony

U.S. Price: $69.99

That is to say, it's a hands-free, cord-free, pocket-free, and belt-clip-free personal audio player worn like a pair of Bluetooth headsets (like one might use singularly with a mobile phone), tethered with a firm but bendy cord around the back.

Charged and connected to a PC by way of a free-standing USB docking cradle, the NWZ-W202 is easy to load up, accommodating all popular/competitive music file formats.

With the unit's rechargeable battery housed in the left ear piece, a simple jog dial and a couple of volume up/down buttons (plus a "shuffle" on/off button) are available on the right.

And that's it, that's all there is to it. Push the dial in and it plays; whip the dial forward or back for next/previous tune; press and hold for "Zappin" mode which delivers short successive sound bites of each tune (supposedly the chorus, but in reality it's hit & miss) until you hit play again to play the one you like (why you would uploads songs you don't like is a mystery).

Tested and verified, every other passerby will give you a queer look when you wear this thing in public, because the NWZ-W202 makes you look like a total nerd (or a person with a bad Bluetooth fetish). But that's okay, "borg chic" is in.

El Creepo El Creepo

El-Creepo! is the debut solo record from singer songwriter Todd Edward Smith. Over the past decade Smith has been the voice and chief songwriter for Dog fashion Disco, The Alter Boys and current band Polkadot Cadaver.

El-Creepo finds Smith taking a stylistic detour from his past efforts into more acoustic based mellow and sometimes hauntingly meditative musical passages. El-Creepo! is best experienced on mind altering substances while sitting in a dark room. Smith sings of all things sadistic morbid disturbing and unsettling (what's new?)!

If you're looking for a record to drive around in your Iroc-1 with the t-tops off this is not the one!

Otto Certa Manha Acordei de Sonhos Intranquilos mp3

With an album title inspired by the Franz Kafka classic ''The Metamorphosis,'' Otto's new album follows suit, mingling rhythms, textures, words and emotions on an album rich in orchestrations and new sonic creations.

''This album is more independent and more mature. It comes from a concrete change that happened inside me. This album is a tale I found in my soul,'' says Otto.
Backed by a stellar band, including co-producer Pupillo on drums, Dengue on bass and Catatau on guitar, Otto seamlessly blends an intoxicating mix of tropicalia, samba, folk, rock, reggae and pop, all layered with rich story lines of deep emotions and reflections. ''It's like it is my first album,'' says Otto.

The album also features special guest vocalists, Grammy winner Julieta Venegas and CéU.
The CD digipak includes a 12-panel insert with photographs of an art installation created for this album by Tunga, a world renowned conceptual artist.

Skillet Awake mp3 download

I have been a loyal and passionate Skillet fan since 1995. I have bought every one of their releases, seen them in concert a couple times, etc...

I was very excited about the new release, but after a couple of listens, I am already bored. It attempts to be a follow up to Commatose, so much so that it could have probably been the other half of a double album if done correctly. The problem is though, that though Awake is very simlar to Commatose, it only ends up being a pale shadow of that release. It is a major, extreme let down when comared to albums such as Invincible, or Alien Youth.

There are only about 3 songs in my opinion that are strong, enjoyable songs on here (Hero, Monster, Sometimes). That has never happened to me as I have listened to any album from Skillet. Each release, I have loved every song. There is far too much repetiveness on the disc, as well as far too many ballad type songs. One or two is Ok I guess, but there are about 6 songs that fit that description.

Another thing that really dissapoints me is the overwhelming level of generic, mainstream radio, shallowness that is on display with this release. I mean, I never thought John Cooper would write mushy, young love songs, or ones that show whiny bitterness about past breakups filled with mediocre pop punk flavorings (Should've When You Could've). I mean, gross!

My plea is this: "Come back John! Come back to the jaw dropping musical creativity you have so long delivered. If you feel you must be mainstream, then stick to the feel of Comatose, but please still mix it up some and that doesn't mean going the route of Simple Plan or Avril Lavigne! Be Skillet! Please!"

Imogen Heap Ellipse mp3 download

Imogen Heap finally returns with her third solo album, Ellipse. Ms. Heap certainly does not disappoint! This album is truly extraordinary. Upon listening, you can hear how meticulously this album was crafted. Not one song sounds rushed. Layers upon layers of electro-soundscapes pop and swirl around Heap's wonderful vocals. The lyrics are insightful and quirky, as only she can write.

What's most pleasant to me is that this album doesn't try to be like any of her previous releases. It takes its own risk, and thus has its own identity within Imogen Heap's catalog.

"First Train Home" starts the album and also serves as the first single. This song is the closest you'll get to the material she's released before. After that, the tracks get more experimental. Gone are the familiar hooks that were heard throughout her last album, Speak For Yourself, and this isn't a bad thing. The instrumentation here is wonderous (hence why she decided to include a separate disc of instrumental versions of all the songs)!

My picks for standout tracks include: "Earth", "Little Bird", "Bad Body Double", "Canvas" and "Half Life".

I simply cannot wait to see how the songs on Ellipse will be interpreted live on stage! There simply isn't another album out there like this. Another triumph for Imogen Heap!
